As promised yesterday, MuscleNerd and the rest of the iPhone dev team have Jailbroken the iPhone 3.0 OS.  You might want to fast forward half-way through the video before you see anything good.  The short answer, however: iPhone 3.0 is jailbreakable and will be shortly after launch.

Try to be patient.  Do as we say, not as we do.

So the build on today's release will still be 7A341? Honestly, I've seen a new build on final release software even after the release of a GM. On the developers page, they even still refer to the GM as a 'beta'. However, I do think that verbiage may be leftover from b5.

This video has confused me a bit, I have a jail-broken phone at the moment to preserve the old base band, as in the future I will need to use the soft unlock when I go traveling. Dose the video mean that it is safe to update to 3.0 with out jail-braking thus updating the base band and then if needed in the future I could jail-brake and install the soft unlock?

Jailbreaking on 3.0 has been possible since the first betas, they stated that they will always be able to jailbreak 3g, what is demoed in the video is the UNLOCK of iphone 3g running 3.0, what is even more interesting is the mentioning in the post that 3gs MIGHT be unlockable too ( because it uses the same Baseband), the only hurdle a this point would be jailbreaking.

Of course this should be taken with caution... since they don t have yet an iphone 3gs to work with.

Congrats to the dev-team again for their incredible work
